Some common problems with furnaces in the Nampa region can be resolved quickly. Before you call for help, try these furnace troubleshooting tips first!
If your thermostat is older, check the batteries to ensure they work. Then, double-check that the thermostat is set in the ‘heat’ position. If you have a furnace fan, switch it to the ‘on’ position. Then, adjust the setting to 3-5 degrees above the current temperature in your home. This should kick on your furnace. If you cannot hear it, check a register to see if you can feel air coming through it.
First, check to see if the breaker has flipped off. If it has, turn it back on. To reset the breaker, locate the breaker assigned to your heating system and move it to the ‘off’ position to reset it. Wait a couple minutes before resetting it to the ‘on’ position.
Your system may have an emergency shut-off valve (that looks just like a regular light switch) located on the side or close to the furnace. If they are turned off, turn them back on. When a door or service panel is removed, your heating systems may also activate emergency cut-out switches. For example, if a furnace door is not replaced correctly after a filter cleaning, the emergency cut-out switch will stop the furnace from coming on. Ensure all access doors are properly secured and fitted.
