Is your AC blowing hot air or struggling to keep up, so it's making you uncomfortable? Some problems with air conditioning systems in Nampa ID and Meridian ID can be resolved quickly. Before you call J&D Heating, Cooling & Water for help, try our A/C troubleshooting tips first!
Ensure your thermostat is in the 'cool' position, and set the temperature setting 3-5 degrees lower than the current temperature in your home. Listen to see if your air conditioning system kicks on, or go to a register to verify there is air flow. If your thermostat is an older model, check the batteries - it might be a good idea to swap them out for a new set while you're at it.
Locate the breaker assigned to your air conditioning system (there could be one for the outdoor unit and one for the indoor unit) and move them to the 'off' position to reset. It's a good idea leave the system off for a few minutes before turning it back on. Be patient. After turning your system back on it can take a few minutes for the outdoor unit to start back up.
Most homes in Nampa ID and the surrounding areas have an AC and a furnace. Both your indoor and outdoor unit have power switches. Ensure both are set in the 'on' position. If you have a furnace and an AC system, the furnace will also need to be turned on. Your outdoor unit may also have a reset button you can use to reset the system.
If your system has a condensate pump, make sure it is full of water. If it is, make sure the pump is plugged in, the hose is attached, and it isn't clogged.
If the air from your vents is warm - this is the first thing you should check. Believe it or not, a dirty furnace filter can also cause your A/C system to malfunction, and if it is bad enough, it can shut your system down. Dirty filters decrease airflow and make your system work harder than it needs to. Check your filter every 60-90 days to see if it needs to be changed or cleaned.
